Download Files

I have a web site but have just been posting photo's and would like to have
a page that I can upload some files to and have others be able to download
these files. Lots of sites do it and as you can read I am dumb when it comes
to this. Can anyone lead me to a site or advise me how to do this??

You import the files into your local FP web, create links to them on a page,
and publish to your remote web.

When they want to download them, they click on the link, or right click on
it.

Tom,
Thanks, sounds to easy. So all I do is create a page and enter the names of
a file with a link to the file. Then when a user right clicks the file it
lets him download. Will give it a try when I get back from work later.
Thanks

Tom,
Works great. Now is there any way to put a password on the file that someone
would have to enter in order to download the file??

Hi Tony,
How are things down south (in the US)? It's really warm here in Australia;
even Canberra had seen quite a few days of 37° to 38°C - 100° in the old
money (i.e Fahrenheit). But Adelaide and Perth are our hottest capitals they
are having many days at 42°

Anyway, In IE8, to download a page, just navigate to the page and left click
on File | Save As... from the menu bar.
If it is a photo, then right click and Save Picture As...
If you have a set of links, it is right click a link and Save Target As...

Cheers

Place the file and the page linking to it in a password protected folder.
The folder can be protected using the file system on the server (use the
control panel) or if you have FrontPage extensions, and your host has the
required support, place the files in a subweb with unique permissions.

Trevor,
Thanks for the info. It was files I wanted to be able to have a friend
download. I did what Tom suggested. I just put a hyperlink to the file in a
page and when you click on the file the download message comes up very nice.
My other thoughts now are to be able to put a password on the file so that
only the person I want can download the file. I guess that may getting into
writing scripts again. You know how poor I am at that. Weather here is
terrible. It has been below freezing here for the last 2 weeks. Down in the
high 20 F and for Florida that is really bad. Froze up most of the crops
here so that means prices will again raise. All in all everything else has
been great.

Ronx,
Sounds good but I am not using my server. I have my web using GoDaddy and
using their server. As you can tell I am not to bright with the web page. I
am using FrontPage and have been just using photo's and with the help of
Trevor was able to put up a slide show on some of them. My web is just a
family thing were my children send me their photo's and I put them on the
web so they all can see their pictures. Nothing fancy as so far that is
beyond me. I do write application software using Visual FoxPro but just have
not expanded to Web work.

You'll need to contact Go Daddy to find out what they support/will do for
password protection.

Tom,
Thanks for the reply. I think I will have to write up a script that gets
called from the link that asks for a password input that then calls the link
that downloads the file. Have the idea but do not know how to do it yet. Not

Download Web Page Password Protect

Edit it in HTML Text mode only and have to edit it.
FrontPage will have a HTML Text mode for editing this code // Do not view
in FrontPage be cause you will no be able too!

You would have to Publish it first to View on the web!
You Put a link to the Password Protect page and if the Password right the
page will send you to the Download Page!

But see if your SERVER RUNS PHP SCRIPTS FIRST and you be good to go!
