download keeps failing

Mike

I have tried to download Office XP update about 5 times. It takes over 4
hours to download. Every time it has told me that it has failed. Is there
some other way to keep up to date? Or am I doing something wrong?

BMike:
The speed of downloading updates depends heavily on your internet connection
speed. What update are you trying to download?
A workaround to keep updated without using the Office Update detection site
(which I assume you're using), is to go to the main Office Update site
http://office.microsoft.com/officeupdate and go to the Browse Downloads
section and choose the Office version you'd like to update. There you'll find
the latest updates available for manual download.

Goose, Thanks for your reply. I am trying to download Office XP Service Pack
no. 3 at the standard line rate of 56 thingys per sec. I tried to work
around the problem by downloading No.1 and 2 but I have already done that
(and they are helpfully included in no. 3!) No. 3 doesn't seem to exist on
its own apart from nos. 1 & 2. I was wondering if there is a CD or something
I can get. At first I had terrible trouble beciuase every half hour my
internet connection would cut off becuase it said nothing was happening. I
have cured that but now I still can't get a successful download. Anything
you can suggest gratefully welcomed!

Milly,
Thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately I live in UK and that is not an
option which is offered in the countries selection. Is there a UK option?

Check your Office website for the UK under Office Resource Kit. SPs are
often delayed for non Northern American versions but eventually make it out
there.

Milly,
THanks again - I hadn't realised that I was dealing with a US web site and
that there is a UK web site - it all looks the same to me. I'll phoner the
UK offices and see if they can help.
