"Download Pictures" link does not work. Impossible to view pictures in html emails.

The problem I'm having is that I cannot download the pictoral content
that arrives in html emails - even when I click on the "To protect
your privacy, some pictures in this message were not downloaded.
Download Pictures" link.

When I click on that, all that happens is that the "Download
Pictures" link disappears after a few moments - all the images in
the email document continue to remain as red X's.

This is happening on about a dozen Mac workstations in a corporation
that is otherwise Windows only. We are using the Server edition of
Entourage (see below):

Mac OS X vers. 10.4.3 (it is also happening on some workstations with
OS X 10.3)
Entourage 2004 for Mac version 11.1.0 (Server edition)

My Admins are all Windows guys and can't help with the Mac stuff.
However - could it be that this problem is related to their server?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

We have heard reports to this effect and are looking into them.

Thanks,

Pat

Just to chime in with another "it's happening here too!". I did post this to
the list a while back and got some helpful suggestions and -off list- a
denial that this was happening! Ahem... nothing seems to fix it, regardless.

As we're a bunch of Macs in a Windows environment, in a corporate setting,
could it be anything firewallish at work here?

Cheers!

In the end, we raised a call on this. Initial feedback indicates that
Entourage can't play nice with proxy .pac files...and this is causing the
pictures to not download or display.

Are you using proxy .pac files? What are your experiences?

Any thoughts, notes etc. much appreciated.

A new security feature in Entourage 2004 blocks the display of pictures (and
other linked mail content) hosted on remote sites. Images can be loaded for
individual messages by clicking on the ŒDownload Pictures¹ link in the
yellow message status bar. This was a huge feature request from users that
found the all embracing ŒAll Pictures¹ or ŒNo Pictures¹ of Entourage vX too
limiting.

There is a setting in the security section of the preferences to
automatically download pictures from recipients who are in your address
book. That should suffice for most users. If you really want to download all
images from all sources, you can put ".com", ".net", ".org" etc to your list
of safe domains in the Junk Mail Protection dialog. Then, images from all
untrustworthy sources will be downloaded.
