Hello,

I am so happy I found your website (http://word.mvps.org/Mac/Using-
Windows-Templates.html) to help download .cab MS templates onto a Mac.
Thank you! I downloaded and paid for the filejuicer application. I got
one of the templates to work! But I have tried about 20 other ones and
they all open with a .zip. When I open the .zip there are many folders
and one folder has .xltx extension and inside of that folder there are
many files and the have .xml extension. I tried opening one of these
files but it tried to opened with OmniOutliner but did not open at
all. Does this mean these templates simply won't work on the Mac?

Thank you,

Nevermind...I changed the extension of the .zip to just .dotx or .xlt
like you said in the website! I just didn't think I could change the
extension of a .zip

thanks for that website http://word.mvps.org/Mac/Using-Windows-Templates.html

Yep! You've found it :)

The XML file types from Microsoft Office are all compressed with the Base-64
(Zip) algorithm.

This compresses the file to about 25 per cent of its former size (depending
what's in it) but older applications that don't know this, and don't read
the file extension properly, try to un-zip the file.

As you have discovered, once you have unzipped a dotx on a Mac, it will
never work again :)

Because XML is a "plain text" format, the file extension is very important
to say what is in it: otherwise, some applications will mis-handle the file.

Cheers
