Downloadable excel spreadsheets

I would like to post (small) spreadsheets that users can download, but as
..xls files rather than .zip files. Is this not possible? My browser
automatically wants to save as a .zip - don't know where that setting is.

btw, I didn't make them zip files. just regular hyperlinks to xls files. word
docs do the same thing in front page site. thanks for the help in advance

You need to make then zip files or the add a note for users to right click and select save to file
next to the link.

On my box, Firefox opens a dialog box for open or save. IE opens it in the browser,
and I do a File|Save as, which gives the WIndows save dialog. and the file name
already there is xxxx.xls.
No need for a .zip.
