Downloaded document in e-mail, changed, saved it. Where is it?

My teacher sent me some suggestions on the end of what I had so far. So I
downloaded the document, made changes, clicked the floppy disc to save, and
closed it to e-mail it back to her.

When I got home today, I found an e-mail from her saying that I had re-sent
the original. I checked and of course she was right.

I've done this before, saved changes to a document downloaded from an e-mail
and lost the document. Does anyone know where it will have saved?
