downloaded excel zip files

Help Please

For quite a long time I have Downloaded zip files which
contain Excel files for a train simulation game BVE now
all of a sudden the files wont download properly. ie they
open straight to excel and are in gibberish and does not
come up as download and then save as. have I changed
something i shoulnt have

It sounds more like a windows setting to me.

If you double click on a .zip file in windows explorer, does it open in your zip
program (like winzip)?

If no, then maybe you could just reinstall your zip program. Doing that should
take control of the extension back to the zip program.

If you don't want to try this, maybe you can do it manually.

In win98, I can change these settings via:

Open Windows explorer
Tools|Folder Options
File Types
Scroll down to the Zip extension (for me it's associated with WinZip)
Select it
Click on Edit
and redirect its action to your favorite zip program.

While you're there, there's an option for "confirm open after download"

You may want to check that box to get the dialog when you click on a .zip file
to download.

You should be able to rightclick on the .zip file (in MSIE???) and select "Save
Target As", too.

But just that won't change the association.
