Downloading Home & Student to new netbook

Hi, I have Microsoft Home & Student 2007 on my home desktop and I have just
bought a new netbook and I want to put the software onto it too. I only have
it installed on the one computer so the licence will be OK for another
computer. My problem is that as the netbook doesn't have a CD drive I don't
know how to download it. I have checked the site and found mention of putting
the product key in but can't find how to actually do it.

Sorry it is probably a dumb question so I thank you in anticipation!

1) Buy an external cd drive; you will need it at some other stage.
2) Network the PC's and install via the other
3) Copy the cd to memory stick

There's no way to download it directly from the site? I'm in the same
situation. I also don't want to buy an external CD drive, as I already have a
regular laptop.

How do you copy the CD to an external harddrive, in a way that preserves the
launching features, so that I can load it that way? Is it really as simple
and dragging and dropping all the files?

No download. Sorry.

You'll have the same or similar problems with any other software that you can't
download.

For 20 bucks or less, you can get an 8gb usb drive and solve the problem for
good AND have a handy way of moving other data between your netbook and laptop.

Can I use an external harddrive to load the package onto the netbook? Is it
just as simple as dragging and dropping all the folders from the CD to the
pocket drive and then once again moving it to the netbook? Will it launch
properly?

You probably can't but it doesn't matter. There'll be a program named SETUP.EXE
or the like in the root directory of the CD/DVD. Start that from wherever it
lands on the external and it should work.
Is it really as simple
and dragging and dropping all the files?

Pretty much so, though you might want to drag them into a folder on your
external ... call it Office2007 or whatever.

Thankyou Steve, will give this a go.

Although I am a little cranky at the salesperson where I bought the netbook
because he told me I would be able to download it using my product key...

It'd be fun to track him down, netbook in hand, verify that that's what he said,
then tell him to show you how.

And ask to talk to his boss if he won't play along.
