Downloading Photos

I connected my Canon Powershot 400 Elph camera to my new Dell Dimension 2400 running Windows XP and instead of the Microsoft Picture editor installing the appropriat software as indicated in the help menu, I received a message that iMicrosoft Office Scanning doesn't support this type of device? How do I make Windows XP recognize the camera?

Load the drivers from the camera? Possibly from the
supplied CD or download them from Canons website...
