Downloading Templates -- No Joy

I'm using Word XP. I tried to download a couple of templates from the MS site. It wouldn't let me -- said I either didn't
have Word or else the activeX wasn't working. I do have Word, and my activeX is working. Is there another way for me to
download those templates, without all the verification stuff? How about if I give MS my SS #?
