I downloaded a brochure template to my laptop from Microsoft office Online. I
completed the Template like I wanted saved it to my USB Flashdrive to print
it out on my printer from my desktop pc. When I plugged it into my desktop
pc. I got windows canot open this file. To open this file windows needs to
know what program created it. Windows can go online to look it up
automatically or you can manually select from a list of programs on your pc.
Could someone please help me. Your help is greatly appreciated.

The problem is probably your saving it to the flash drive. Save to the laptop's
hard drive, copy the file to the flash. Copy the file to your local hard drive,
try opening again.

How do you copy a file to the flashdrive?

Actually, that's not quite correct.

Right-click on the file
Select copy

Right-click in the destination folder
Select paste

Hm...DJD...this sounds like a compatibility issue to me and not a flash drive
issue. I'd be very surprised to hear that you solved this by copying locally
to the hard drive.

Typically when a FILE is not RECOGNIZED by your computer there are a few
things happening:

a) You are trying to open a file, but do not have the program. For instance,
you downloaded an Access file, but you don't even own access, so the computer
says "Ghee, what do I do with this".

So first check to make sure that you have the program installed on your
machine.

b) Then check the version that is installed. Some older Microsoft Users,
let's say 2003 or older, may get messages that they can't open a 2007 file
template UNLESS they have downloaded and installed the conversion tool.
Remember, Microsoft's products can be tricky, as far as backwards
compatibility - meaning its harder for 2003 to open 2007, but its super easy
for 2007 version to open all older versions. So check your versioning!

c) IF its truly a template issue - then do what the others have suggested.
Save the file to your hard drive (your C drive), then open Windows Explorer
or My Computer, drill down to the file and then drag it over to your Flash
Drive, which show up in my computer as any other drive does (A, D, etc). My
flash drive always shows up as E, but yours might show up as Z! So make sure
you are saving the file to the RIGHT location!

Good luck, tell us the resolution!
