I'm on dial up. I've recently been experiencing crashes and the recommended
solution tells me to download the latest Office XP Service Pack 3 English
Version. However, it is going to take in excess of 220 minutes!!! I doing
exams all this coming week ... and my computer keeps crashing. Is there a
quicker way to get these updates to stop my computer from crashing. I already
get automatic updates online.

An update is unlikely to cure crashing, unless the cause is specifically
addressed in the update.
You need to ascertain what is causing crash.
i.e. does it always happen when doing something specific, is anything
indicated in logs, did this event occur after you had installed something?
etc etc
A quick check, does the problem still occur if running in safe mode?
