Drag-and-drop images not displaying

Hello...

When I drag and drop an image (wmf or jpg, for example)
file from Explorer into a Word 2000 document, only the
icon and filename displays -- not the actual image.

Shouldn't the image get placed in the document just the
same as if I had used the "Insert/Picture/From File..."
menu item?
