drag and drop pictures from Safari to Powerpoint 2008

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel

In PPt 2004 (Test Drive), I was able to drag and drop pictures directly from Safari (or any other onscreen source) into the Powerpoint workspace. In 2008, when I do the same thing, I just the URL.

Is there some setting I can change to allow me to work like normal.

I know I can drop it on the desktop and then drag it to the PPt workspace, but am hoping to avoid the extra steps if possible.

I believe that it depends on how the image is embeded in the page.

If the image is there just in <img> tags, it *should* be fine,
If ther eis a link witht he image, then Safari has to decide whether you
are draging the link or the image,

One way around this is to Ctrl-clic the image to select Copy Image, and
then to paste it in PPT.

Thanks for the input.

I'm still stumped. When I follow your directions I still get the URL upon pasting.

Hi gxus :)

This is a known issue, unfortunately :(
The best way to work around this would be to save the image to your desktop
(or whereever) and use Insert>Picture... That way you'll know exactly what
you're inserting. You could also add it to iPhoto and drag it into PPT from
there.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info, June. For anyone else stymied by this issue, the quickest method I've found is to drag & drop from Safari to the desktop and then drag & drop to PPt. Too bad though. It used to work doing it directly in PPt 2004.

Of course, you have to take out the trash pretty frequently with my method.
