Drag and drop

I am not able to drag and drop text within a word document. I have
acertained that the option is checked and should work. How can I resolve
this?

Is drag and drop working otherwise--i.e., in other programs?

I saw a problem recently, after updating a Synoptics touchpad's driver,
where all dragging and dropping in Windows Vista stopped working... until I
opened and closed the mouse control panel. After rebooting (after the
Windows update, for which reboot was not required, but I did anyway), the
problem has not recurred.
