Drag down, skipping cells

I am trying to organise a teaching program for my faculty and need help
in doing something which should be easy!
The main page has the weeks laid out with the appropriate number of
lessons for the year. The second sheet has lists of lesson titles.
My idea is to reference the lessons from the first sheet using
"=Sheet2!B1" for instance. Then drag/filling down to give B2, B3 and so
on.
What I'd love to do is set the holiday dates and drag, forcing the
lessons to skip the holiday but maintain the proper order (eg Lesson 1,
Lesson 2, Lesson 3, HOLIDAY, Lesson 4 ...)
I tried locking the cell I wanted to keep clear but that only says I'm
not allowed to edit that cell.
An addition benefit would be the chance of "bumping lessons down the
list .. but that is a minor thing

System? Excel 2000 with macros disabled at work, although I use
Excel2004 (Mac) at home

Any help would be appreciated!
