drag & drop SP1 datasource fields

I simply drag & drop SP1 datasource fields to a form in design mode, but I
never get to see them on the form.
For a picture or a file attachment datatype I can still select picture or
file attachment when dragging, but that's it.
The field simply never appears on my form .
I only have this in SP1 ( version 11.6357 )

Hi Dover,

I have not seen this behavior before so I have some questions:

- Do you have another computer available to you? If so, does the same
behavior occur there as well?
- At some point did you have InfoPath installed without SP1? If so, did you
experience the same behavior?
- Has this always been an issue or did you recently just notice this issue?
- Do you have any "accessibility" options enabled? For instance, screen
colors, size, etc.?
- When you say you do not see them, is this only in Design View or do you
not see them in Preview mode as well?

Thanks,

tx for the reply,

1.I have indeed another computer where it works ok.

2. before i installed sp1 infopath worked fine. Even if I disable sp1 (tools
- options )I can drag and drop controls again ( but of course I loose all sp1
functioanlity and I want to use the .NET studio add-in for infopath)

3. i have no "accessibility" options enabled.

4. In the mean time I de-installed/reinstalled office 2003 and the sp1 but
the problem remains: When in design mode and i drag a control or a layout I
see the sandbox for some time, thinking the system will drop the control on
the form, but then I don't see the control at all
When I copy and paste a control that was already on a sample form it works
fine.
So visualization is ok but drag/drop not.
All controls that are already on the form are previewed correctly.

finally, when I do "format - view properties or background color " I get a
message "infopath has encountered an error
"the operation failed". The other options of "format" work fine

5. I never installed any sp1 preview versions of infopath on this computer.

6. I deactivated any virus scanning software as these things can sometimes
do weird things with no luck

7 I must say that the very first time I installed sp1 I got a message that I
don't have the right version of offfice 2003 ( the message related to the KB
article when you had infopath sp1 preview on your system, which I didn't
have.)
It updated however all my office software to sp1 ( help about). However I
have also visio 2003 and frontpage 2003 and the office 2003 web components.
So I deinstalled these also , and then reinstalled office 2003 and then sp1
with no errors.

7. so there is something in sp1 related to my environment that's not ok.

Dover,

Thank you for the update and additional information. So we do know this is
"environment" related based on it working fine on another machine. As such,
this is going to be a "needle in a haystack" search trying to isolate (if
we can indeed isolate) the cause.

The next steps will be to compare machines: operating system updates, make
and model, installed software, etc. For instance does one machine have
later service packs, IE updates, etc. than the other?

I wish I could give you a "silver bullet" as to how to correct this but the
behavior you are seeing is something I have not seen before and it's going
to be a matter of trying to isolate the differences in machines to try and
locate the cause.

I realize that.

In the mean time I did some further tests.

I'm able to make it work when I follow the following procedure.

1. I deactivate SP1 in infopath and make a initial version of a form ( 1
control is enough)

2. I save the form and activate SP1

3. I reopen that form and then all SP1 functionality works ok
( the drag & drop and the failing menu options )

So If I originally start from a non SP1 form it works ok, but not if I
create a form from scratch directly in SP1.

I'll do with that for the moment. If this bings you to any ideas, please
reply. if not, thanks for your input.
