Dragging Objects Bug in 2004?

J

Jason Davis

I've encountered a vexing bug in PowerPoint 2004 and can't find a solution.
When I drag an object (text box, shape or image) it drops 4 PowerPoint grid
points down after I release my mouse button. This happens whether I have
snap to grid on or not (I do not have snap to objects on).

Is anyone else experienceing this? Does anyone have a solution? I am using
a PowerBook 12" 1.33 MHz. This problem occurs whether I'm using just the
laptop screen or a second (spanning) monitor.

Hi Jason,

Have you installed the latest MacOS updates? Have you used Disk Utility to
repair permissions? These may or may not fix the problem, but it would be
helpful if we knew where we stood with these issues.

I see this same problem with PowerPoint 2004 (it started right after I
installed Office 2004). I have all the latest updates (including OS X
10.3.4) and regularly repair permissions.

Hey Jim,

I keep my Mac system up to date and repair permissions about once a week.

Laying out custom diagrams and tables is a big part of what I do in
PowerPoint so finding a solution to this problem would be fantastic.

Is this behavior not happening on your version of PPT 2004?

Thanks for any assistance,

Hi, this is a known problem in PowerPoint when you have rulers turned on.
The workaround is to either turn rulers OFF or once you've dragged your
object to the correct horizontal position, use keyboard arrows to move to
correct vertical position.

Thanks,

Nancy,

Thanks for verifying that this was not an isolated issue. It's also good to
have a temporary (if less than ideal) fix. I'll keep my fingers crossed and
hope this is addressed in an update soon.

Otherwise I've had few problems with the new version and am quite pleased
to have almost complete animation and transition parity with the Windows
versions.
