Dragging speed too fast!

My copy of Excel 2002 seems to have only two speeds when I am dragging the
mouse to increase the size of a selection. It either pokes along adding a
cell a second, or before I can let go of the mouse button it has selected
all 256 columns and around 3,000 rows. Can I set the dragging speed? A fix
in Excel would be preferable to changing the settings on the mouse itself,
because the dragging speed I get in other applications is fine, but I'm
happy to change the mouse settings if that's what's needed.

Any advice appreciated, thanks.

Jamie,

Are you trying different overshoots? In XL97 and XP, I find several
auto-scroll speeds depending on how far I've overshot the edge of the
window. The lowest is around 4 rows/sec. The fastest is around 10^22 GHz.

Hi Earl,

I am trying different ones, but I would like to lower my top speed, since I
get a very fast selection rate with what seem to me to be only modest
overshoots, and my hand/eye coordination isn't good enough to keep my
selection rate slow enough.

The basic idea of speed of selection depending on distance of overshoot is a
beautiful piece of user interface design, though, I think . . .
