draw lines using word 2000

Nigel

I cannot draw a line without first having a box
displayed "create drawing here'. This means I cannot
draw a simple line and insert it where I want in the
text. Any solution?

Hi Nigel,

In Tools=>Options=>General turn off the Drawing Canvas option.
You can then use a drawing canvas container only when needed
by going to Insert=>Picture=>New Drawing and can use the
autoshape tools, such as a straight line, without the canvas.

Hi Kate,

The drawing canvas was introduced in Word 2002. In Word 6 through 2000 it was the MS Draw Add-in under Insert=>Object or
Insert=>Drawing=>New drawing (if the add-in was installed and the menus were customized). It's basically the same feature, just a
bit more integrated :)

the canvas isn't there in 2000? is it?
