Drawing a Freeform Line on a chart

Hello -

I use the 2008 Student Edition of Excel.

I create a simple X,Y scatter chart that works fine. I then try to add a freeform line to the plot area. The line appears, but when I try to modify the line by lengthening or moving it, the line does some very strange things. It changes shape, moves the line to a place I didn't move it to and basically becomes unusable.

Has anyone experienced this issue? It also happened in the 2004 edition and I was hoping it would be solved in this new release.

One work around I found was creating the line OUTSIDE the chart and then move the line onto the chart. That makes it usable but still not 100% full proof. What I find then is, it's difficult, if not impossible to make the line completely vertical. It's always is slanted just a bit.

Any ideas on this would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Bruce

I just played with that a bit and did not see anything unexpected. Can you
be a little more specific about the tool you used for the line, where it is
on the chart, and what you are trying do.
