drawing box appears automatically

I need to draw a line in the middle of a page using the line drawing tool
(have to do it that way)...used to not be a problem in old version. Now in
Word 2003 when I cluck on the line drawing tool it automatically opens this
large drawing box that says something like "Draw your picture here." How do
it get that box not to open up so I can just draw the line wherever I want?

From the Tools menu, select Options and then go to the General tab and
uncheck the box in front of "Automatically create drawing canvas when
inserting AutoShapes"
