drawing object cannot be copied and pasted but disappear

Hi,

I have a document (Word 2003, Win XP_prof, SP2) with a lot of tables in it.
Over those tables I place some drawing objects (rectangles with text added).
When I try to copy and paste those objects, they dissappear. Resizing gives
no problems, as long as I stay within the boundaries of the table. The
moment one of the sides of the rectangle gets drawn outside the table, the
whole rectangle disappears.

When I just create a new one, all is well, except that I then have to make
the same object over and over again.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Drawn objects have a mind of their own. They probably came from a
different universe.

I tend to create the object on a blank document, copy it to the
clipboard, then import it into a graphic package such as Paint Shop Pro
or Irfranview. From the graphic package save it as a JPG image. Then
insert the image into the table.

You may consider this a lot a messing about. But then you are sure in
the knowledge that all your images within the document are JPGs and not
a mixture.

You could also turn off the drawing canvas (Tools | Options | General
tab towards the bottom of the dialog box Automatically Create Drawing
Canvas).

Thanks, this is certainly a creative way to solve this. I will try it out. I
had already turned of the canvas, maybe this has something to do with it? I
will check that out too!
