drawing object jumps around the page

I created a rectangle and I need to be able to move it around the page.
Everytime I try to move it jumps to a certain area. How do I set the page
layout of my object so that I can move my objects around the page. I am
using Word 2003.

Right-click on the rectangle, format autoshape, layout and select square or
tight. Does this help?
