Drawing toolbar error in Word

[frustrated user]

For the past month, everytime I clicked on any item on the drawing toolbar,
Word would open an image box in my document (even if I only wanted to draw a
line).

Now, if I click on the drawing toolbar Word shuts down altogether.

Help!

In Word, click on Tools | Options | General | uncheck the "Automatically
create drawing canvas" box | OK.
