Drawings jumping all over the place

M

Maria

I'm new to this newsgroup and realize that I could
probably find the answer if I read through the emails,
but I'm going nuts trying to get my drawing objects to
stay where I put them. No matter what wrapping style I
choose or what other settings I make, some of my drawings
just won't stay in place. For instance, I'm trying to
connect a rectangular box with a circle below it,
connected by a straight line. The straight line jumps
away from where I draw it and so does the circle.

What in the world is going on? Although I can't say I've
done a large amount of Word graphics, I'm very
experienced in other areas of Word and thought this would
be a breeze. Please save me from embarrassment.

Thanks in advance!

My practice: place all graphics inline.

Develop the graphic another file.
Group all the components together.
Copy into the document as a picture (Paste Special >
Picture)
Check for inline: Right click > Layout > Inline
Tie a heading or title to it with Format > Paragraph >
Keep with next

Text will not flow around, since the graphic acts like a
big character.
To get text alongside a graphic, a neat trick is to make a
1x2 table & place text in one cell and the graphic in
another.

Have you tried grouping all the images together, for example, draw the
circle, then the line from it. Select both items (using the 'Select
Objects' button on the drawing toolbar), click and drag across both
objects. Once they are both selected, right click on the image, scroll
to 'Grouping' and click 'Group'. This will group the objects together
and you can treat that as one image. You can continue to add to it,
grouping each new item until the image is created.

This is a hard one to explain, but I hope that helps you out!
