Drop Cap problem

When attempting to insert a drop cap, Word 2000 inserts the drop cap BUT
also inserts an unwanted page break. It happens only in one 'chapter' of a
particular document; other drop caps insert normally.

Try File -> Page Setup -> Layout -> Section Break, Continuous (make
sure it applies to "Whole Document")

You know it makes sense.

Tried several variations of your suggestion. No joy.

Hi James,

Do you see a nonprinting Page Break line? If not then check the
paragraph pagination options under Format/Paragraph/Line and Page
Breaks.

Widow/orphan control and Keep with next are both checked.

Okay, the cause of the problem was that I had inserted a one-page file at
the end of the 'chapter' as a sample. Apparently, the drop cap caused the
file to 'yank' the rest of the paragraphs with it to a new page, causing the
unwanted page break. So I separated the file with a section break...
problem solved.

What bugs me now is that even with the drop cap the 'visual length' of the
paragraph hadn't changed (three lines @ 12 point spacing) and there was
plenty of apparent space between the last paragraph and the inserted file.

So why did the drop cap cause Word to think it ran out of space?
