Drop Down Box strange behavior

I have a form with 2 drop down boxes, 2 xml data sources. Both load
about 2000 entries at form load. Both controls display immediately
when the down arrow is clicked. When I click on an entry in the list,
no matter if I click on control A or control B, the selection is
displayed immediately. When I click on the other control, the list
appears immediately, but when I click on an entry in the list, it takes
up to 5 seconds for the selection to appear in the box. Has anyone
run into this problem?
