drop down causing crash

My project professional crashes any time I select a drop down list from the
entry table. I can make this happen in both the 2003 and 2007 versions. Is
this happening to anyone else? Any advice or solutions?

Hi,
I have just had a MS-Project 2003 user with this problem and I do not knwo
how to fix it.
the problem persists even on a new (empty) file and even after removing the
Global.mpt so that a new one of these is created on start up.]

Did you happen to find the answer to your query?

This sounds like a PC problem rather than a problem with the application.

Does the same behaviour occur with that project file on another machine?

If you re-install Project, does the behaviour persist?

Do drop down lists work in other applications?

I suspected a PC problem too, but have my doubts especially after reading
Maurice's post. This is happening to other folks as well.

To answer your questions:

No, this doesn't happen on another PC with the same file.

Yes, this occurs after reinstalling.

Yes, drop downs work in all other applications.

Additionally, this only occurs when selecting a drop down from the primary
view. For example, if I select the resource drop down directly from the
entry table it crashes. However, if I open the task information window and
then select the resource drop down from the resources tab there is no problem.

HELP!

Swap memory around between PCs, swap memory modules around within your PC?

Use some of the hardware test applications around - PC Burn In Pro
amongst others.

The fact that it only happens with this application in this view need
not mean that it is not the PC, depending on how the application manages
its use of memory when loaded.

Nevertheless, very annoying for you.

Sounds nasty.
Next week I will have the IT guys runmemory diagnostics and if that does not
show anything they may have to uninstall MSP2003 and install good ole 2000 to
see if problem remains.
Hard to believe that two instances independly happen on the same day.

Hi !
Just reinstalled my system because of that.
It happens with MS Project 2003 as well as with MS Project 2007. No other application!
And for me (so far) only with the resources-dropdown in the main page.

I'm working on a HP nw8440.

Greetings

Anyone in my company running Vista + Project Pro 2007 gets the same
issue... People running windows XP + Project Pro 2007 DO NOT get the
same error. Works fine for the XP users.

To Reproduce:
1. open new project
2. in the first couple of lines add a name to the resource fields...
3. On the 3rd or 4th line click the dropdown to select a name and
viola... CRASH!

An error similar to one you report is logged in the connect site for
Project 2007.

https://connect.microsoft.com/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=257919&SiteID=235

The status still shows as "Active" so I assume it is being worked on by
the folks from Microsoft.

Microsoft has announced the release of SP-1 scheduled for
12-December-2007. I do not know if a fix for the issue is included with
the Service Pack.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

YES! I think you are right.

I did a small reasearch in my department.
About 10 colleagues around me are having problems with drop down menus in MS
Project 2003. I also have this problem. All of us are using finger print
readers. All of our fingerprint readers software is HP ProtectTools, and we
are having HP laptops.
Vice versa - everybody that does not use fingerprint readers (another 10
people), do not have problems with MS Project 2003.
