Drop Down Lists: Allow option of adding own data if not in drop do

I would like to create a drop down list for user to select from but also
allow them the choice of typing in their own data if the item they want is
not in the list. Is that possible?

From menu Data>Validation>Data Validation window>Error Alert tab> uncheck

Thank you for quick response. If I use data validation and untick this, how
to I get the drop down arrow to show?

Just disable the error alert.

Select the cell with the drop down list
Goto Data>Validation>Error Alert tab
Uncheck: Show error alert after invalid data is entered
OK

This setting does not alter the display of validation lists.

Jacob and Biff have given you the solution.

Just be aware that using this method does add the new item to the source
list.

Thanks everyone.

If I disable the error alert, I seem to lose the drop down box

Correction

"does NOT" add the item.
