Drop down menus have dissappeared

My drop down menus are gone! I get a small outline of
where they should be but am unable to see anything or make
a selection. This is in Word and Excel. Any thoughts?

It's helpful to say what version of Office/Word/Excel you are running when
you post, but it probably doesn't matter here.

Check out this link from the Word MVPs' site, and if this doesn't remedy the
problem (in Word and Excel) then try running detect and repair on the help
drop down menu.

If you edit the registry, and your operating system has System Restore, set
a restore point, and also right click on each registry key and select export
to save each key you edit.
