Drop-down menus not working??

I have Microsoft Word 2001 (OS 9.2.2 if it matters) and my drop-down
menus (File, Edit, etc. etc.) will not work. I click on them and
nothing appears. The only menus that seem to work are 'Font' and
'Help'. To do anything in Word, I basically have to use shortcuts
(which takes forever, as I am basically trying to figure them out most
of the time). Anyone know why it's doing this? And any idea how to
fix it? It really is a pain in the ass.

The usual FastFix for the loss of the Word MenusŠ

Close all open applications. Open these folders: Hard Disc>System
Folder>Preferences Folder>Microsoft Folder. Select Word Settings (9) file
and trash it. Then shut down the computer. When you restart, the Microsoft
Application will create a new Word Settings file and your menus will be
restored to their original default settings. This means that any special
preferences that you had created that differed from the default will have to
be re-selected by you, so it would help if you either wrote down your
particular special preferences settings or memorized them. This procedure
may have to be applied once or twice a year as the Word menus have a bug
that makes them either disappear sometimes or they just go crazy.

If this FastFix does not work, then go to

Also, see http://word.mvps.org generally for other information concerning
Microsoft Word fixes.
