Drop Down menus visible, but fail to work?

I am trying to use an Excel template that has macros including
drop-down menus. This is a template used by other users, apparently
PC MS Excel users, who have no problem like I have.

The box with the triangle, indicating a drop-down menu, is visible,
but I cannot pull it down. I've tried downloading office X update
10.4, 10.5 -- no results.

Why would these drop down menus work for PC users and not for me and
my mac?
Any suggestions to help troubleshoot the problem?

It's because the drop-downs are ActiveX controls, which only WinXL
supports. To work cross-platform, controls from the Forms toolbar,
rather than the Controls toolbar, must be used.
