Drop down pages for template

In a previous job, my company had templates set up that allowed us to access
various types of pages through a toolbar, i.e. with links such as 'cover' to
open up a cover page and 'body' to open up a body page. I can't seem to find
any information about how to do this in Word. Is anyone familiar with this?

Sounds to me as if they had a proprietary program or add-in of some sort.
