Drop-Down Tables & Editing the rest of document: Word 2003

I have created a template in Word 2003 with 2 drop down lists in a table.

The rest of the document is NOT in a table.

I set the document protection in order to activate the drop-down lists, but
when I create a document with this new template, I can only modify the two
drop down lists. I cannot seem to be able to modify any of the rest of the
text of the document.

Well, that's kind of the way it works...

Insert a continuous section break between the table and the rest of the
document. In the Protect Document task pane, when you select to protect for
forms, a blue link "Select sections" will appear below that box. Click it,
and uncheck the section that doesn't contain the table.

You need to enclose the table with the form fields in a separate section and
then protect only that section. If the table is in the middle of the
template, you need to insert two section breaks, one before and one after the
table (Insert > Break - select Continuous if you want to prevent page breaks).

To protect the document, do this:
1. Select Tools > Protect Document to open the Protect Document task pane.
2. Check the check box below Editing restrictions.
3. In the field below the check box, select "Filling in Forms".
4. If your document has more than one section, a "Select sections" option
appears. Click it to open the "Section Protection" dialog box. Make sure to
select only the section that includes the table with the form fields and
click OK.
Now you can turn on protection and only the selected section will be
protected.

Jay:

That's what's supposed to happen.

If you want protect the table but work your will on the rest of the
document, you'll have to put the table in a separate section. (It's not that
tough, you just insert section breaks either before or after the table, or
both, as needed.)

Then when you protect the document, click the Sections button, and protect
only the section that the table is in.
