Drop-downs: Displayed Value

B

Bryan F.

I'm a newbie with InfoPath (and Sharepoint Services)

I have created an InfoPath form which populates a drop-down list from an
external MS SQL datasource. That works!!

This list needs to have two characteristics:

1. It needs to say CHOOSE ONE, or some such thing.
-- The only way I can see to do this is to have that value in the db
table.

2. "CHOOSE ONE" text should not be misinterpreted as a value (since the
field supposed to be required).

The objective is for there to be a phantom text "CHOOSE ONE" which has no
value under it. Of course, I can't even get it to have ANY text at all.

Any thoughts?

Hey Bryan,
Set the default value for the Drop Down list to "Choose One" although this
won't display in the design view it will display when the form is rendered
once the user selects an option however they cannot return to the "Choose
One" option

Thanks, Ben.

Do you mean the "Value" option on the Data tab of the Drop-Down List Box
Properties?

Tried that.... There's a " . " in that field and a button to the right
that says select "x-path." Perhaps I'm not looking at the right "Value"

Could it have something to do with the fact that I'm getting the drop-down
values from a datasource"?

Thanks
Bryan

Sorry Bryan I should have clarified
if you open the properties for the node that the Drop down is bound too in
the data source you can set a default value there,

Cheers,
