Drop downs under Insert Autotext have disappeared

The drop downs under Insert/Autotext/Header footer have disappeared. How do
I get them back?

Normal.dot could be damaged, or maybe it has been replaced by a document.
Rename the template, with Word closed, and have Word create a new one for
you.

Normal.dot could be damaged, or maybe it has been replaced by a document.

Correction: replaced by a custom template, renamed as "normal.dot."
