DSO for Project Server Install

I am installing Project Server and the documentation says to Install DSO and
Client components for SQL if you plan to use the portfolio analysis. Do I
need to install the Analysis server and manager too. Because the Project
Server install guide just says to install DSO and Client components and then
run SP3 to update it. But after I installed DSO and the client components I
ran the Service Pack and it keeps telling me that it can not validate the
user. But I have full permissions on the server and I am in SQL as a Server
Administrator and System Administrator.

You use DSO to access an Analysis Server through code.
Client components are required when the Analysis Server is running on
another machine (although the client components are actually installed on
that server, too, but that's another issue)
You definitely require an Analysis Server _somewhere_ in your system
setup... it does not have to be on the same machine as ProjectServer.
