Dual Language Data in One DB file - Problem Displaying on Web

Hi Guys,

This question may sound too fundamental and silly, but please help.

I am running Win/98SE with Office 2000 (all English versions). I have
got a database created using MS Access 2000, currently with data all
in English.

As we need to translate some fields (data) into Japanese, we have a
third party create the translation in a Winword document (they used MS
Mincho as the font). I can see properly all created winword documents
without needing to change any settings.

I tried to do a "cut-n-paste" from the Winword document to the Access
DB, initially didnt display correctly until I change the Tools ->
Options to Dual Font support (to MS Mincho) for the DB. It finally
displayed correctly on our customized forms.

However, when I tried to output the data to the web (under .asp -
javascript), it just would not display correctly. I tried setting the
Font Display etc, it just produces "???????????" etc. However, if
part of the data contains English characters "????? CDC ???", the
English characters appears, but not the Japanese characters.

Any suggestions? Which part have I missed out, or it just wouldnt
work?

I was told a MS Office (Japanese) version may fixed the problem, but I
do not want to spend a few hundred bucks to get a suite for some
simple translation.

Any help are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

regards,
eddie

Once you step onto the web, you have left the Microsoft/OfficeAccess/ realm.
You are now dealing with HTML, which Office has no control over.

What I'm trying to convey is that you'll probably need to explore some of
the other newsgroups to fish for answers.
