Dual Processors and Excel Performance

We have a user that works with very large complex Excel
workbooks. Would Excel be significantly better with a
dual processor system. Or, would it not be able to take
full advantage of both and we would be wasting money on a
dual system?

Excel does not make use of dual processors so it would be a waste of money
unless the user is running a number of background tasks at the same time.
Just get the fastest processor you can (AMD or INTEL) and a reasonable
amount of RAM, and I would recommend Excel 2002 as it can be significantly
faster than previous versions on some workbooks.

It is usually possible to speed up Excel calculations by large factors
(often a factor of 10 or better can be obtained) by changing the way the
calculations are being done:
see http://www.DecisionModels.com/optspeedd.htm and associated pages.
