i have two "Normal" msword templates...one at work and one at home, each
loaded with customization and both invaluable. sometimes, the need for
tools
[macros, hot keys, autotext/autocorrect, etc] overlaps from one location
to
the other.
i want to combine the two templates into one. how can i do that? or can
i
do that?
You need to create a new template, copy the customizations into it, and load
it as a global template. A global template is a template placed in your Word
Startup folder that loads when Word starts. To find the location for your
Word Startup folder, go to Tools/Options/File Locations.
You can use the Organizer found under Tools/Templates and Add-ins for the
macros and AutoText but you'll need to reassign the keyboard shortcuts in
your new template. Make sure you Reset the keyboard shortcuts for your
Normal template prior to reassigning them. You also want to delete your
AutoText entries in your Normal template after you copy them to your new
template. Otherwise if there are duplicates between your templates the
AutoComplete tip won't work.
Here's an article that may help get you organized:

Note it's for macros but it also applies to AutoText.
Your AutoCorrect entries are stored in *.acl files. For that you'll need to
use the Backup utility to transfer them between computers. Here's a link for
it:
