Duplicate Assignment Unique IDs Project Server 2003 db

Looking for support information available as to what could cause duplicate
assignments and duplicate Unique IDs and tasks on a resource's timesheet?
The project plan in the client does not have duplicate tasks. It does not
show duplicate tasks on Web Access Project Summary view either. Only on task
assignments for resources. Only on a few tasks within the project plan as
well and not all of them.

We do not allow Master Project Plan publications. We do not use manage time
periods. We have been at version 11.1.2004.1707.15 on the server for a long
time and at 11.3.2007.1529.15 SP3 for a while as well without previous
issues. This particular plan is managed offline frequently if that helps

Trish - we called this scenario Orphan Tasks and we have it two ways:

1 - assignment id exists twice on the PWA side and once on the client side
2 - assignment id exists once on the PWA side and doesn't exist on the
client side

We developed some queries to do compares to find the scenarios. Once we
find them, there is a flag that indicates whether the assignment should be
hidden from the timesheets (we don't ever delete anything from the source
tables). For these 'orphans' another query sets this flag so that our Hide
Deleted Assignments query picks it up.

We believe the 'orphans' are created by deleting assignments that have
pending updates.
