Duplicate Autonumbers in Access 2000

Hello friends

I have been facing a peculair problem in Ms Access 2000, I
have used Autonumber in one of the table and once in a
while it gets duplicated, Since I have indexed on that
field gives an Duplicate Key message & stops.

I have installed the Jet 4 Service pack (6) but still I
have the same problem.

That's unusual! Normally, Access can't even accept the
new record if you're creating a duplicate value on the
primary key (I never saw it act otherwise).

Are you sure that:
1) the autonumber field is set as primary key?
2) you didn't import external records containing
autonumbers?
3) you didn't switch this field from Number to AutoNumber?

If all of the above points are clean, make sure you don't
have... a virus!
