--- Not working --- Better Idea --- My use and need ---
------------- Not Working ------------------
Outlook 2007 does not always detect a duplicate contact. Sometimes it does
and sometimes it does not. I have even tested it to be sure. I am surmising
that it depends on the avenue I am using to input a new contact but have not
yet got a handle on which avenues I am using that do or do not detect the
duplicate.
It just occured to me that perhaps I need to have the specific contact
folder selected and the new contact would only be checked against that
folder. If so it would not work for me as I have over 100 contact folders. I
expected that when adding a new contact from any avenue it would check
through the entire contact book and then give me the option to delete or to
add anyway.
---------- A Better Idea for the same feature ---------------------
I have recently imported my address book from Outlook Express to Outlook
2003 then in short time to Outlook 2007.
I would like to see a feature that would allow me at any time I wish, to
scan the entirety of my contacts for duplicates (if you add this you might
wish to add looking for improperly formatted email addresses as well).
That would solve my current needs and even catch those that are not caught
when I input another duplicate contact. I would be able to add several
contacts without worry because after inputting, I would simply perform a scan
for duplicates.
When I had Outlook Express I had found a program that would find duplicate
addresses but the maker does not have one for Outlook 2007. I have not as
yet found such a program for finding duplicate contacts in Outlook 2007.
I would want the duplicates to search through the actual email addresses.
Searching names may be useful for others but I am not that concerned about
duplicate names.
-------- My use and need for duplicate contact detection -----------------
I need to be able to detect duplicate contacts to avoid adding a contact
that has expressed a desire to be removed from my list. When requested to be
removed I move their contact informat to a restricted folder (simply named
XXXXX - REMOVED or XXXXX -Restricted Family or such) so that when I add new
contacts and then check for duplicates it shows up and when I see the
existing contact to be in a restricted folder I simply do not add it again,
otherwise it is added to one of my many other folders. It would also allow
me, of course, to catch others so they do not receive duplicate emails from
me.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
