Duplicate Enterprise Global

We are experiencing some intermittent crashes on one of our Project 2003 Pro
workstations (the others are working fine). Upon investigating we have
discovered that the MSP_Projects table on the server it has a duplicate
Enterprise Global. What could cause this?, and could the two globals be
conflicting with one another?

Your situation is normal. On my Project Server instance, I actually see
THREE global files, which are:

resglobal
global20060616073957
global20060619085728

My Project Server instance is fully-functioning, without crashes or problems
of any kind. Therefore, I would suspect that what you see in your own
Project Server database is normal, and is probably not the cause of your
crashes. I would strongly suspect that something on that one workstation is
what is causing Microsoft Project to crash.

Dale,

As usual, you have been most helpful. It is good knowing what is NOT the
problem as well.

The situation is this. We have two primary scheduling workstations; mine
which is running Windows 2000 Pro, and the other workstation running on
Windows XP Pro, which is the one that is crashing. Both Project installations
have been fully patched (i.e. ServPacks up to date), but when you look in the
"About Microsoft Project" on the XP workstation it doesn't show any reference
to "SP2", as it does on the Win2K box.

The XP box crashes when you "Save", "Close", or "Exit", or when you go to
edit macros, which renders it basically unusable. When it crashes we get an
error signature that references the "vbe6.dll" file. I checked the version
against my install, and they are identical.

Are there any post Service Pack hotfixes that address this? Or are we just
going to have to re-image this machine?

Have you tried reinstalling the SP2 path on the WinXP machine again?
Because the software does not show it is patch, something is definitely
wrong with the software install on that PC. Let us know.

Dale,

The patch is showing up on the "About" screen now, but there has been no
change in application behavior. We've repaired, uninstalled/re-installed, the
software a couple of times, and re-applied the patches, but nothing changes.
Looks like there may be some other software conflict occuring.

Thanks again for the help. Best regards,

Kevin

For a stubborn and subtle issue like this, it might be time to get out the
credit card and give Microsoft Support a call. Sorry.

When you determine the cause of this problem, please share the cause of and
resolution to the problem with all of us. Thanks!

Will do.

Kevin,

Did you find the solution to the issue? I'm about to open a ticket with MS
as well. I have one workstation (mine!) that has Project 2003 crashing on
Exit out of several that work just fine.

Thanks,
Dean

Not yet. As near as we can tell there is an issue with the vbe6.dll file.
There is a fix for it in a post SP2 hotfix for Office 2003, but the PC in
question has Office 2000 installed and our IT department is balking at
installing Office 2003 because the company has standardized on Office 2000.

We cannot apply the hotfix until the IT dept gives the go ahead (which I
think will happen if MS tells them to). I installed Office 2003 on my PC a
year ago (I am one of the few folks in the company that has admin rights),
and have no issues.
