Duplicate forwarded contacts

Kris

I forward updated contacts to co-workers. When they save the contact, they
are not asked to replace the old contact information so end up with
duplicates. How do I correct this?
If I forward as a vcard, the "file as..." field is not in the correct format
and the categories field is empty.

How are you forwarding them? Try inserting them as Outlook Items in an RTF
message.

Thank you for your response, but unless I am doing something wrong, it did
not help. After selecting the contacts to forward, I am using the action
menu and then selecting forward. I tried changing to Rich Text and then
forwarding the contact. It still did not ask to replace the prior contact
information; it added a duplicate.

You did not do what I suggested. Reread my post please. I did not tell you
to forward the Contact. I told you to insert the Contact as an Outlook Item
in an RTF message.

The can delete the duplicates. However, they're not really duplicates,
since you admit that you've "updated" them. Outlook has no trouble having
multiple contacts items containing the same or similar information.

Thank you for your response, but I'm not sure what you mean. When I send the
updates as vcards, the user receives a message "Duplicate Contact Detected"
and is given the option to replace the old contact. The problem is that when
I forward as a vcard, two fields (file as... and categories) are incorrect or
incomplete.

Kris,

This is the same problem I have and posted questions about. I have tried to
send vcards in numerous ways. Each way has a problem. If you forward as a
vcard (from Actions menu), information gets lost (like category). If you
just forward (Actions menu), the vcard is received as a folder not a vcard
and information can not be accessed. Right click and "forward" also does not
work for a contact.

Right now, the method I am using is to create a mail message and then in
attachments, click item and select the contact. This method allows the
contact to be sent on with all information in tact. However, like you
stated, when a contact already exists, Outlook does not ask if you want to
add new information to an existing contact (like it does for the other
forward options). Rather, it creates another contact with the same name and
the user must delete the outdated one by hand. Not a very productive method
of updating.

So, I am looking for a solution to the same problem. At least I know
someone else is struggling with this too.

And you shall continue to struggle alone. When you don't quote the post, you
don't make sense. No one could have a clue as to what you are referring.

Wow. I am sorry. I was not aware that there was posting etiquette here as
far as quoting the post. I think all any of us who post questions want is
answers. Since it is a running post with responses contained per post I
thought it was pretty obvious as to what post I was referring to since I
replied to Kris. If you mean my original post that I referred to, I just
assumed that the synopsis that followed re-describing the problem would cover
it. There is more than enough information to "make sense" and provide a
"clue" as to what I am taking about. I will look for answers elsewhere.

"Posting etiquette" = common sense.
Threads expire. If you don't at least quote the last post, there is no
thread.

Thanks for your input Melissa. I can read the original thread so I know what
you were referring to and had enough information from your post to understand
you have the same situation. I still haven't found a solution that works
satisfactorily.
