Duplicate messages

I recently upgraded from Win XP to Vista (briefly) and then to Win 7; and
from Office 2000 to Office 2003. All went fine but on two occassions now –
for no apparent reason – Outlook went and “re-downloaded†all the in-mail
that was left on my server (Sympatico.ca) and stored these duplicate messages
in my Outlook inbox. In other words – Outlook went and downloaded all my
previous mail that was on my server even though it was already in my Outlook
inbox. On top of that, the first time it did this, the “re-download†was
interpreted and so it started the process all over again and brought in
duplicates of the same messages up to five times ! Quite a pain as I have
about two years worth of mail still on the server.

I do not want to delete the messages that are on my server as it is a nice
backup but I really don’t want to spend the time to delete all these
duplicate messages again. Any ideas why Outlook is doing this ?

I have been having the same problem repeatedly for the past couple of weeks
with Outlook 2007 (Win7 Pro and XP). I also use Sympatico.ca

Disable you AV from scanning your emails by uninstalling it and then re-install it
without the email integration (scanning ) option

I just started having the same problem - 306 messages trying to enter my
inbox every 10 minutes. I hit "cancel send/receive", but it just delays the
inevitable.

How can this be stopped?

Thanks for the suggestion Peter, but I'm using MSE which - I believe - does
not scan email.

I've just started having the same problem just yesterday. I'm on
Win7, Outlook 2007 and am using MSE for virus. I'm on Sympatico as
well. All of my messages have downloaded 6 times!!

I just had a "chat" with a Bell rep - he said that it was a server problem
and would be resolved within 48 hours. I hop so

Update:

As of yesterday, no change - still downloading duplicate messages from the
server. Finally got a Bell rep on chat and we moved all my old messages from
my inbox on the server to the draft folder, thus leaving the inbox clean.
This seems to have worked as the latest new messages that have accumulated in
my inbox are not being downloaded when Outlook checks for new mail. I think
I will leave the old messages in the draft folder.
