I have a database that is generating duplicate numbers in
an autonumber field as described in Microsoft Knowledge
Base Article 291162. Apparently a problem with the
Microsoft Jet 4.0 database engine causes this problem
when the "compact and repair database feature is used. I
downloaded the latest service pack as described in the
article and rebooted, but the problem still exists.
I would like suggestions as to the best approach to
repairing this problem. I have tried running "compact
and repair" and that didn't fix the problem.
Everytime I try adding a new record to the table it
sequences to the next number from the previous attempt,
and is now at "82" but the last entry in the table is
around "900."
