'Duplicate' record

On my form listing contacts there are two registered, apparently identical,
records - same title, forename, surname, gender, dob, telephone number.
Opening one shows normal details with an autonumber, but opening the other
leads to a blank form, apart from default values, and no autonumber.
Attempting any editing results in the creation of another record. There are
then two genuine (deletable) records and one undeletable record. Is there any
way that I can get rid of this last record? I've tried compacting and
repairing the database.

Any help much appreciated.

It's not entirely clear to me what you're saying.

However, open the table(s) and have a look at them. You can use the
ooredering buttons A:Z & Z:A to help you locate what you think the problem
records are.

If you can't find the problem here then your form's the culprit!
