Duplicate Recurring Events on Calendar for Contact Birthdays

If I create a new contact and add a birthday, Outlook automatically adds a
recurring event to my calendar for the individuals birthday, as expected.
This works fine. My problem is when I edit that same newly created contact,
change any field (name, address, birthday, etc.), and save it, Outlook adds a
duplicate recurring event to my calendar for the individual's birthday. This
happens if I do this directly in Outlook or through VBA. Is this a bug? Can
I do anything to stop it?
